Course description

Social psychology is a main discipline of psychology. This discipline examines the role of the physical or assumed presence of “others” on the thoughts, feelings and behaviour of the individual. This course provides an overview of the basic contents of social psychology. This overview is continued in the course “Social Psychology II: The Group”. Moreover, this course aims at giving a glance of the particular perspective that this discipline adopts when examining issues within its scope.

Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of this course students will:

  • have basic knowledge (basic theories and important research studies) of social psychology in the topics of social cognition, attribution, attitudes, and social influence.
  • be able to understand research methods of social psychology.
  • be able to connect research with theory.
  • be able to understand relevant knowledge in order to apply it in new contexts.
  • be able to use relevant knowledge in the formulation of judgments and in the solution of relevant issues.

Assessment 

Student evaluation is accomplished with a written exam at the end of the semester (note: the duration of examination is determined by the instructor).

The basic assessment criterion is the critical comprehension of the course topics. 

During the exam access to books or other material is free.
