Course description

The course aims to familiarize the students with the basic dimensions of the pedagogical procedure through the Systematic Observation method, which is the main approach included in the pre-service training programs around the world. This course is essentially the 1st Stage of Practical Training.

The 1/3 of the course is devoted to field or videotaped observations accompanied with structured observation protocols, which aim to record various educational and pedagogical situations. The observation data offer rich analysis of the pedagogical procedures and promote feedback and reflection processes. This analysis is framed by theoretical lectures, which include subjects, such as the teaching profession, the pedagogical and physical space of kindergarten, the daily program, the relationships among preschool children, teachers and parents and the dimension of gender issues.

Assessment

  1. Written exams (60%) which includes:
  • Design of an educational kindergarten program
  • Pedagogical issues emerged from the observations

Presentation of group assignment (40%)

Enriched lectures, discussion/dialogues, brainstorming, analysis of critical incidents, group assignments
