Course description

The aim of the course is to provide future Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers with a supportive transition from the Department’s academic framework to a professional placement by familiarizing students with multifaceted ECE requirements. During the course, students have the opportunity to bridge theory with practice by implementing their internship into ECE placements. ECE internship provides the necessary settlement for students to get acquainted and apply innovative education programs in order to develop the required skills and competencies as well as to critically reflect and evaluate on education designs and teachers’ programs. Within the course, students participate in course lectures, small-group seminars with laboratory teaching staff as well as education internship in ECE placements. The course material related to lectures, seminars, and education program applications into ECE placements is fulfilled by the Department’s ‘Theoretical and Applied Pedagogy’ Laboratory.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to interact with young children, to undertake initiatives in order to address various education difficulties that are risen in their internship, to plan and develop innovative programs, as well as to reflect -individually and in groups- on education programs during their internship.

Assessment

The student assessment is based on papers that are developed and submitted by small groups of two students.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods are based on lectures, small-group seminars, and pilot program applications into ECE placements.
