The aim of this project was to study epistemic discourse (that is discourse regarding knowledge claims) within the setting of academic lecturing. 18 transcribed, recorded academic lectures were sampled, featuring 17 academic staff members and 386 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Thessaly. Analysis identified the rhetorical strategies seemingly activated in participants’ discourse to handle ideologically laden dilemmas concerning the relationship between knowledge and power.
