Course description

The course aims at emerging the benefits of empowering children-nature relationship, especially for children living in urban centers and experiencing alienation from the natural world. The framework of the course is created by the synthesis of principles and methods of Environmental Philosophy and Pedagogy. The course attempts to emphasize the investigation of human/nature relationship, as well as the exploration of pedagogical methods and practices that can contribute to the encouragement of children’s connection to the natural world.   

Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  •  realize the benefits of empowering children-nature relationship. 
  •  be familiar with and be inspired by the ideas of important scholars, writers and activists of the environmental movement focusing on human/nature relationship.
  •  reconfigure their own relationship to nature.
  •  comprehend and be inspired by traditional and contemporary pedagogical methods regarding the empowerment of children-nature relationship. 
  •  have skills of designing and organizing activities and environmental education programs that  focus on encouraging children-nature relationship.
